    ORDINATION IN VIETNAM PROVINCE

    Đức Giám mục Giuse Châu Ngọc Tri, Giám mục Giáo phận Lạng Sơn – Cao Bằng, đã cử hành Thánh lễ phong chức Phó tế cho bốn thầy và chức Linh mục cho năm thầy Phó tế của Tỉnh Dòng Thánh Phanxicô Việt Nam lúc 7 giờ 00 sáng Chủ Nhật, ngày 08/4/2018 tại Tu viện Phanxicô Thủ Đức, số 42 Đình Phong Phú, P. Tăng Nhơn Phú B, Quận 9, Tp. HCM.
    Đến tham dự Thánh lễ có khoảng một nghìn người, trong đó phần lớn là bà con thân hữu của các tiến chức, các tu sĩ, các anh chị em trong đại gia đình Phan Sinh tại Việt Nam và các ân nhân của Tỉnh Dòng. Cùng đồng tế với Đức cha có khoảng 60 linh mục trong và ngoài Tỉnh Dòng.

    Join us for this year’s celebration of the Order’s Plenary Council. From June 12th – 28th, we will reflect on contemporary realities in the world, the Church, and the Order, spending time in prayer, study, discussion, and decision-making. As we move towards the eighth centenary of the meeting of St Francis with the Sultan al-Malik al Kamil in 1219, this gathering is an invitation to embody a life of dialogue by seeking concrete ways of listening, discerning, and putting into action.

    FOUNDATION OF ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI

    On November 16, 1979, The General Definitory asked Anselm Moons (Definitor General) and Mel Braddy (Mission Seceretary) to prepare a “pro memoris”, which was discussed in consultation with P. Joycelyn Madden, Prefect Apostolic of Burma. It was decided: to ask the English-speaking Conference to be responsible for this project, and to ask Moons and Brady to prepare something for discussion at the future meetings of the General Definitory, It seemed no follow was made.

    CUSTODY OF ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI

    In December 25, 1948, the Custody of St. Francis set up. In 1949, when new China was founded, foreign missionaries were forced to leave. In 1966, the Cultural Revolution began in China and all the Chinese friars were put in prison. In 1980, China started a new policy of opening up. By then, some Chinese friars had died in prison and only four old friars survived

    PROVINCE OF ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI

    In the 14th Century, Catholic Missionaries, including Franciscan Friars, came to Vietnam to introduce the Catholic Faith to the indigenous people. In 1929, three Franciscans returned to establish the OFM Province in Vietnam. Since their arrival, the Province has been blessed with many vocations.
  7. JAPAN

    PROVINCE OF HOLY MARTYRS OF JAPAN

    After World War II, many franciscan missionaries arrived at Japan from many franciscan provinces. There is no unity in Japan. The Delegate general, Apollinaris van Leeuwen insited vigorously on the need to set up Franciscans units in Japan.Then in November 1970, the superiors of all 12 missions decided to form the Franciscan Federation of Japan. And  on December 16, 1977, the Province of the holy Martyrs of Japan was erected. This year is 40the anniversary of the erection of our province.
  8. S. KOREA

    PROVINCE OF THE HOLY MARTYRS OF KOREA

    OFM presence in Korea began on Sep 14 1937 with coming of Br. Deguire and Br. Bellerose, missionaries from Canada. Then the first friary in Korea was established in Daejeon City on Dec 15 1938. But OFM presence in Korea was broken due to the 2nd World War and the Korean War in 1940~1950s. But Canadian brothers came again and rebuilt the friary with early Korean brothers and overcame the difficult period of Korean history. In that time missionaries from Italy came into Korea and started their ministries in Jinju City and southern part of Korea.  
  9. TAIWAN

    BVM QUEEN OF CHINA TAIWAN PROVINCE

    Friars minor were present in China during the time of Montecorvino in 1294. The second wave of missionaries came to China in the 16th Century.
    The area of the present-day Province (Taiwan and Hongkong) saw the arrival of Friars in the 17th Century (Taiwan) and the 19th Century (Hongkong). Yet the missionary thrust of the Order was on Mainland China. By 1948, there were more than 700 missionaries, including 5 Archbishops, 13 Dioceses and 9 Apostolic Prefectures in China, under the care of the Franciscans. Yet, the friars were not united as one single entity.

  10. PHILIPPINES

    PROVINCE OF SAN PEDRO BAUTISTA

    The OFM Franciscans arrived in Manila on July 2, 1578.  Upon their arrival, the first fifteen friars were temporarily housed in the Augustinian convent in Intramuros. Then they finally moved to their own residence on August 1 of the same year.

    The next day they blessed their new church and placed it under the protection of Our Lady of the Angels.  After few months, they set off for the evangelization of the archipelago.

We, the 46 delegates from 14 different entities in Asia, Australia, Oceania, gathered for the Third Asian Young Friars Gathering held in Vietnam give thanks to God for the wonderful experience given to us to reflect on the challenge of bringing the Gospel of Joy to the Peripheries, close to the poor where Christ went before us.

FOURTH CONTINENTAL MEETING OF JPIC – ASIA / OCEANIA

The meeting of Provincial ministers, Custodes, Foundation Presidents and Secretariat for Formation and Studies, Mission and Evangelization and JPIC of the Franciscan Conference for Asia and Oceania was held at Casa Monte Rosa, Puncak, Indonesia on July 10-14, 2017.
From October 9 to 14, the animators of Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) from the EAC and SAAOC Conferences have met in the city of Seoul, South Korea.

The meeting of the Presidents of EAC & SAAOC together with the Secretaries of Formation and Studies and Missions and Evangelization, upon the recommendation of the Definitor General for Asia decided
